Exactly one week ago last year, we were planning the launch of my first book, Power Your Vision.
As I celebrate this anniversary this week, I thought to share my experience for the sake of upcoming authors, and also to encourage anyone birthing a dream.
The one question I get asked a lot of times is, ” Who is your publisher?”.
I self-pubish my books.
That means, Isaac Jabali Khakula and I spearhead the process and lead the Team of Editors, Content Designer and Cover Designer.
It’s a tedious process which means sleepless nights of editing, correcting, guiding the design – until the book goes to print.
It, of course, helps that while I can write, my husband is a Creative and an avid reader. That covers a lot of my gaps.
Let me bring it to the level of an idea.
It’s important that you have a template. You have to have a vision of what you want to see in the end.
I had read a lot of Christian books that were not so scripture-heavy, and were easy to read and draw lessons from, regardless of your culture or denomination. I wanted to achieve that.
I had read good books by largely American Authors that had received International acclaim.
For me, it didn’t matter that I am from a third world country, and don’t quite have a big name.
I wanted the book to hit global standards in terms of excellence.
My vision was clear.
Everything that the Team did, had to align to that Vision.
Once the idea drops into your spirit, conceptualise it (think and imagine), come up with a prototype, and work towards aligning your vision with that prototype.
In a market that is saturated and competition for eye-balls is high, product differentiation is key.
What would make your idea or product different?
Focus on that.
