Most of us were taught, as part of our upbringing to hide certain aspects of our lives. We were meant to be prim and proper – to present our families and ourselves in a certain way.
Just like you, I perfected it.
And the sad part is, I believed the story.
I had learnt to live with the bandage, to survive with the wound, and somehow find strength to smile through the discomfort.
I hid myself from others, and unknowingly hid me from God and even myself.
I forgot who I was. The facade seemed real.
I reduced my interactions to talking shop. And worst of all, my worship to singing. I had lost the most important relationship – and didn’t even know it.
Until that moment. When all seemed silent. When the phone stopped ringing.
In that silence, I found solace in Him.
And that’s when He, by His Spirit, pointed out my festering wound that had been covered under multiple bandages.
Then He strengthened me to remove the bandages and face up to my reality.
And no, I didn’t have to face it alone – His Presence was right there with me.
What I didn’t know is that the bandages didn’t just stop the wound from healing, they covered the real gem God created.
Jer. 1:5 Before I formed you in your mother’s womb, I knew you.
What’s your story?
Could you, like me, have allowed a wound to cover who you are in an attempt to protect yourself?
Could you have forgotten your identity?
Could you have lost the place of intimacy with God?
