A Crisis. An intense moment. Surrounded on every side. The sound track is heavy… there’s no knowing what will happen. No place to run and watch from… you are Starring in the movie.
Exodus 14:10 And when Pharaoh drew near, the children of Israel lifted their eyes, and behold the Egyptians marched after them. So they were very afraid, and the children of Israel cried out to the Lord.
For a moment, you wonder whether it was better to be employed than to be in business or ministry, to be in your former job, to remain in your country, to remain single…. Fear grips you.
Exodus 14:12 … For it would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians that that we should die in the wilderness.
You want to run, but there’s nowhere to run to. You want to go back, but there’s nowhere to go back to. You stand… afraid. Stillness is nerve-wracking.
Exodus 14:13 … Stand still and see the salvation of the Lord…
And then, He steps in. Just in time.
Exodus 14:29 But the children of Israel had walked on dry land in the midst of the sea, and the waters were a wall to them on their right hand and on their left.
You are blinded by the intensity of the light. Breakthrough is here. History has been rewritten. There’s a new point of reference. Your life is set on a new trajectory. This a Defining Moment.
Your faith is built. You have seen the hand of God.
Exodus 14:31 Thus Israel saw the great work which the Lord had done in Egypt; so the people feared the Lord, and believed the Lord and His servant Moses.
You journey on, almost oblivious of the needs for the next phase of your voyage. But God knows. He ordained this journey… and has made provision for you. He will bring you to moments of refreshing…if only to remind you, “I am with you.”
Exodus 14:27 Then they came to Elim, where there were twelve wells of water and seventy palms of trees; so they camped there by the waters.
And yes, there’ll be moments when darkness will seem to loom over us again, when it seems like we don’t have enough, when it seems like we are not walking in the promises that God has given us.
But yet, we can trust Him to sustain us through the journey.
Exodus 16:12 “I have heard the complaints of the children of Israel. Speak to them, saying, ‘At twilight you shall eat meat, and in the morning you shall be filled with bread. And you shall know that I am the Lord your God’”
In our journey of faith, we must keep reminded of our Defining Moments – that moment that we knew for sure, He parted the sea for us; and we must remain aware of those moments when He uniquely brings us to the water of Elim and provides for us manna……those will be our wells of refreshing, where we find strength for the journey, where our hope is renewed.
The promises of God over our lives remain. Our part in the equation is to keep the faith, to keep walking, to keep trusting.
Numbers 23:19 God is not a man that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?
May you always remember; may your faith for the journey be strengthened.
Bon Voyage!
